#WhiteCabanaWearsPink: Flowers and Bows

As you know, every Monday in the month of October, #WhiteCabanaWearsPink. These pink posts are meant to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer. I’m raising funds in various ways, including donating proceeds from all affiliate links this month to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Get click happy!

Today might be one of the prettiest pink posts I’ve ever drafted. The theme is flowers and bows, and these photos ooze plenty of lovely!

Fashion: Would You Wear This?

As I was doing my research about cream cashmere scarves (tough life, yes) for a post, I came across this, and I literally…Laughed. Out. Loud.

Here’s how it is shown on the model with a blazer. I’m not quite sold.

The Friday Five: White Pyjama Sets

I absolutely love pyjama sets. I’ve been wearing them for years. I’m always on the lookout for affordable versions, and when I see them, I scoop them up. Even if I already have enough in my drawers. Can you relate?

Some of the jammies I spy online and in stores are just so beautiful – yet they’re mostly over my budget! Have a look at these five sets. Would you put any on your must-have list?

Design: Mix and Match Prints

I’m oddly drawn to this outfit even though I normally usually always avoid pattern mixing myself in both wardrobe and home design.

The Friday Five: The Puffy Vest

Fall is the perfect season to embrace your puffy vest. It’s certainly a great option for cool mornings, and easy enough to shed once the warm afternoon weather arrives. I have a bright yellow one – that I originally bought for cold-weather running – but I’d really like to invest in a cream one this year. I love how it looks paired with blue or black jeans – aka my weekend wardrobe!

This illustration by Mark Challen easily convinces us that “the thin puffer vest is fall’s most versatile piece” (for men and women, I’d say)!

I’ve had a browse around the web, and here are five white vests that I think would suit us well this season.

Fashion: Pretty White Swimsuits

I have not been to the pool even once this summer. Sad. Truly. Between my crazy work/MBA/extra work schedule and the many rainy days we’ve had, there has not been one moment to escape to the pool and lounge for hours on end. That said, things are going to change as long as the Florida weather is as I’m expecting it to be – full sun, full heat, and full beach.

The Friday Five: Great White Sneakers

In addition to flip flops and ballet flats, the great white sneaker is one that I’ve got in my summer footwear rotation. Mine are off-white Converse, and they’re great for biking and weekend errands. I have yet to pair them with long dresses and floral skirts as I’ve been seeing around the blogosphere over the last couple of years, but maybe this will be a look I’ll try as the summer months move on.

The Friday Five: What I Like about My Sea Bags Tote

Recently, I styled some outfits with various totes from Sea Bags – a Maine shop that specializes in crafting high-quality bags and accessories using recycled sails.

Today, I’m taking you on a close-up tour of my customized tote. I adore it! Truly. Absolutely did not expect to love it as much as I do.

But, first, a photo of me during one summer of sailing (which made it onto the cover of Ontario Sailor magazine, by the way):

There I am in red, weighing the boat down…and enjoying the view, ignoring the fact that things were getting pretty wild on the high seas (ha ha – not the high seas, but it sounds  dramatic). It doesn’t look like I was working so hard, but I assure you that my role was essential. That’s what I like to tell myself! As a graduation gift from my Master’s program, my parents contacted the magazine and photographer and got their hands on the original photo. I now have it framed on my office gallery wall. I love it. This is a special photo and brings back many happy memories.

So now back to the whole point of this post – my Sea Bags tote. Do you see those massive sails on the boats? Sea Bags reuses olds sails like those and turns them into an amazing collection of totes.

My custom monogram tote arrived several weeks ago, and I was certainly surprised by the quality of it. For today’s post, I’m sharing five things that I like – really really like – about my customized Sea Bag tote.

1. The size. The tote is large, and it’s going to be a great bag to bring to Florida this summer. It’s also good for trips to the market and short getaways, too. The tote can fit a few towels, and it can certainly fit enough for an overnight trip.

2. The stitching. I knew the sail material would be substantial, but I didn’t expect the stitching to be so detailed and designy (yes, I just made up that word). This was a very nice surprise!

3. The clasp. Another pleasant surprise was the strength and weight of the clasp. This is an optional feature, and I would encourage you to opt-in. It’s a shiny detail that’s functional, too.

4. The custom letters. Anything personalized floats my boat. I’m thinking that my last name initial should have been the biggest and in the middle, but I may have placed my order too quickly to pay attention to monogram etiquette. Word to the wise – investigate the options before you place the order!

5. The extra inside pocket. This was an add-on, and I would certainly recommend it. Inside pockets like this are great for keys, lipstick, money, and more. I also like that the branding is on the pocket. This reminds me that my tote was Made In America by a team of passionate people!

There are so many options that you can consider when you place your Sea Bags tote order. My bag, for example, starts at $185 USD, but the inside pocket ($20) and the clasp ($10) were add-ons. The Sea Bags team used navy handles instead of the traditional hemp version on my bag, and I’m so happy that the Sea Bags team decided on these custom options for me. I’m very appreciative, and this design is definitely me!

Marketplace: Thousand Bike Helmet

I’m going to be riding in style this spring thanks to my newest bike accessory – or stylish necessity, I should say. Let me introduce you to my Thousand bike helmet. My brain is my most valuable asset, so here’s to keeping it protected while I ride around town on my Peugeot.

In addition to the classic, simplicity of the helmet, I love the eco-friendly leatherette strap and the magnetic open tab lock. Easy on-off action right there. The circle Thousand poplock that you see in the photo below is also magnetic and I can use the hole to tread my lock through it and lock up this beauty with my bike. I think this helmet’s design is fantastic all around! (Learn more about the Thousand design.)

And while I wait for the snow to melt, I can only take indoor selfies with the helmet. It’ll be much more useful to me when I’m on my Peugeot!

Fashion: Leather at L.L.Bean

If you’ve been hopping around the blogs this winter, then you’ve surely seen the hype over L.L.Bean’s signature Bean Boots. Heck, there’s even a Bootmobile that’s been on tour! But, L.L.Bean has much more to offer than Bean boots and tote bags (two of its popular items, of course). On a recent browsing adventure, I realized how much I was drawn to L.L.Bean’s leather collection, and I thought the collection would start off some beautiful, wearable, and affordable outfits (all items from L.L. Bean!).

Outfit 1 was built around the leather crossbody. It’s a classic shape and works beautifully year-round.

three-quarter sleeve scoopneck, trench, chunky wool-blend sweater,  sunglasses,  baseball cap, black jeans

Outfit 2 was inspired by Trask’s perforated slide. We’ve seen slides since the fall, and I think we’ll be seeing more of them this spring. These perforated versions are super sleek.

Outfit 3 was built from the bottom – up. It began with these handsewn leather loafers in a potentially surprising version – white.

Fashion: Patagonia

Up until recently, I knew very little about outdoorsy company, Patagonia. I associated the brand with fleece. Lots and lots of fleece. Fleece is not exactly my style. It’s true. But in one of my MBA classes about sustainability, a team of my peers presented a case for Patagonia’s sustainability practices, and I was very impressed.

Patagonia has a robust sustainability mission, and it is working to reducing its environmental impact. On each item’s web page, you can learn about the factories where the product has been made and material has been sourced. Further, Patagonia stands behind its products. It offers an ironclad guarantee, encourages repairs and replacements to extend an item’s life cycle, and promotes its reuse and recycle program. Hillary Clinton has been wearing her Patagonia for 20 years.

So, what does Patagonia have to offer in my favourite colour scheme? Let’s investigate!

The Friday Five: Neutrals at Everlane

I’d love just about everything from clothing company Everlane. I placed my first order not that long ago to test the waters after reading so much about this company online. There are a lot of bloggers who seem to rave about Everlane, and I was curious about quality and fit. The images and styling suit my aesthetic, so I was definitely eager to see an item up-close.

I ordered a classic white tee, and it’s made of super soft material. It fits well, but it’s on the thinner side, so it’s a good one for layering.

I appreciate that the clothing descriptions include a link to the factories where they’re made. Everlane uses #KnowYourFactories to provide consumers with more information about its manufacturing processes. I was most interested in learning more about the Italian factories that produce some of Everlane’s leather goods.

The Friday Five: Classic White Shirts

I wear a white shirt at least once a week. Often more. I wear white shirts to work and on the weekend, too. In every season. And on a bike. And sometimes with sparkles. I wear white shirts with a suit jacket, with jeans, or under a cardigan. Short sleeve or long sleeve – I’ll take them all! I can’t get enough of them! (I feel like I’ve just channeled my inner-Dr. Seuss with that little blurb.)

That said, white shirts don’t last forever, and I have recently had to say good-bye to several of my favourites. It’s time to refresh my white shirt collection, and here are five beauties that have caught my attention.

The other day, I stopped in at the Simon Outlet Mall off the 401 on Trafalgar (is that officially Milton?). #WhiteCabanaWearsPink: Fashion

As you know, #WhiteCabanaWearsPink every Monday this month to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research.

Today, we’re talking about mixing pink into your wardrobe.

First, some inspiration from Blair Eadie of Atlantic Pacific:

I love how Blair beautifully styles all-pink outfits. It’s easy to think about a monochromatic look in black, but pink? It’s not the colour that usually comes to my mind for a head-to-toe look. She also wears every shade of pink – blush, rose, bubblegum, and vibrant pinks, too.

Here are some pink pieces that have me staring.

The Friday Five: Top 5 at Club Monaco

Club Monaco is one of my all-time fave stores for beautiful pieces that fit me well. I can always find something that I like for work or casual wear when I’m at Club Monaco. Thankfully for my bank account, the closest Club Monaco is an hour away. The distance, however, doesn’t stop me from drooling at the online site.

Here are my top five picks currently at Club Monaco:

Fashion: Spotlight on Opelle Handbags

I’ve written about Toronto’s Opelle two years ago in this post, and I’m coming back to it because the collection of handbags is stunning. Co-owners Amy Malcolm and Beth Nicholson Crago have a beautiful aesthetic and their designs continue to catch my fashion-loving eye!

Vanda

Vanda, $261 (on sale)

BotanistBotanist, $253 (on sale)

Roberta-Opelle

Roberta Sling, $195

Lotus-Opelle

Lotus, $485

I really like how Milton-based blogger Sabrina Smelko has styled the Lotus Weekender two ways in her recent post. Here’s a peek:

The Friday Five: New at Longchamp

My oldest Longchamp bag is over 15 years old. When I first brought it back from France, Longchamp hadn’t yet made it to North America. Everyone was missing out on the usefulness of Le Pliage. Now, however, Longchamp has crossed the Atlantic, and its bags are available in multiple styles and colours in stores and online. Lucky us! Here are five of my current faves (beyond the classic Le Pliage collection)…
