Material World: Sculpture to Environment at MASS MoCA

A friend sent me these interesting photos from one of the current exhibits at MASS MoCA. The artists of the exhibit, titled Material World: Sculpture to Environment, use ordinary objects (e.g., aluminum, rolls of paper, rope, fishing line) to alter the existing spaces within MASS MoCA’s galleries.

The artists, Michael Beutler, Orly Genger, Tobias Putrih, Alyson Shotz, Dan Steinhilber, and collaborative team Wade Kavanaugh and Stephen B. Nguyen, “create their work against – or in concert with – the backdrop of the museum’s reclaimed factory space, its history, and its own rich assemblage of brick walls, wooden columns, steel beams, and multiple layers of paint”.

The exhibit runs until the end of February 2011 so if you’re in Massachusetts between now and then, you may want to stop in and surround yourself with these impressive installations.

Leather in white

I confess: I often dream of living in a white home with white walls, white furniture trimmed with chrome and wood. Maybe you have these dreams too- a modern fantasy that is all about clean, spartan space. There’s a certain efficiency and an air of cool, calm and collected that comes in white environment.

I love leather and I love it on everything, so if I had a white home I would have more than a few white leather pieces like these:

What do you look for in a nightstand? Personally, I need a drawer or two and a good size surface area for a lamp, books, alarm clock, and a select crystal or silver accessory. Here are five nightstands that fit my requirements:

1. This affordable nightstand from Ikea has a good size drawer and the shelf is perfect for holding stacks of magazines or books.

2. Ikea’s MALM nightstand is clean and simple. Clutter stays hidden with this piece.

3. This West Elm nightstand is almost an exact replica of one of my vintage nightstands. The drawer is large, there’s a good size surface area and the closed off shelf means your books and things won’t fall onto the floor.

4. I adore these vintage oval nightstands. I love the shape, simplicity, and uniqueness of these pieces.

5. I’m saving the best for last. Aren’t these vintage Lucite nightstands gorgeous? They fit all of my requirements and would definitely add interest to any bedroom.

A Good Boy

This White Poodle is really good at sit & stay. $139 at Urban Barn

Need a little company in your condo? How about “man’s best friend”, but not just any canine- an elegantly coiffed white poodle (made of white poly resin) sitting patiently at your knee. With a generally blank but friendly face, this silent companion is already fed, walked and requires little obedience training.

We also really like our furry friend standing up ready to chase a ball. Not to worry: you don’t even need to lift a finger. As long as you don’t mind being the one doing the fetching.
